This past week was production week for my magazine, LNM. During production, I get sucked into a dark whole of editing and writing and barely surface for more than a nap and munchies. The above picture was me this morning, on the day the mag goes to print. I hate mornings. I deliberately don’t plan morning meetings. And yet I was in the office at 7 editing. And I had no one to blame but myself. Occasionally deadlines run up against one another and you have to do what needs to be done in order to meet deadline. This means a major lack of sleep on my part.
Above is a peek at everything that went into this issue. September is our arts issue, one of my favorite issues we put together each year. The theme lets us be a bit more creative with the design, and I just really love arts stories—they tend to include interesting people worth reading about. The top left picture is of the cover for the issue. Our Creative Director took a photo featured in the magazine of a mural and was able to edit it to reflect our headlines.
For the first time, my beer project is included in the magazine. The top right picture shows a page with some of the first-round photos from brewing on Monday. I think they turned out pretty awesome, even though I still have no idea what the main story will even be about. Other than beer.
The bottom two photos are from the editing process. On the day the mag goes to print, our designer uploads it to our printer’s viewing platform. That’s how the whole issue is sent to our out-of-state printer. We all view the entire doc, from cover to cover, and add any edits to a shared google doc between all three editors. Once that’s over, the mag is sent.
And now that my mag is sent, I’m going to go take a nap.
